Hip-hop star Drake to play in PokerStars freeroll

PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site, today announced the launch of a freeroll tournament featuring Interscope Records’ hip-hop star Drake. The freeroll starts on Oct. 19TH with three days of qualifying gambling tournaments leading up to the grand final on Oct. 22ND, where nine qualifiers will take on Drake, for a shot at $5,000.

On September 22nd, Drake launched his new music video for the song “Forever,” featuring Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem. The song is a single for the feature film, “More Than A Game,” a movie about the life of Lebron James and four of his friends. Lebron is featured in the music video playing poker online in the opening sequence. The video has garnered more than 4 million views on YouTube while the song has reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on Billboard’s Top Ringtones chart.

PokerStars.net is holding three days of freerolls, from Oct. 19-21 at 8:00 PM EST. Each tournament will award two tickets to play against Drake in the grand final on Oct. 22. In addition to the three days of freerolls, PokerStars will also run a first deposit freeroll on Oct. 21 at 9:00 PM EST, awarding three tickets to the grand final. Drake will take on the nine qualifiers, as he attempts to stop them from winning $5,000.

Drake originally became known as an actor, playing the character Jimmy Brooks on the TV series, Degrassi: The Next Generation. In February 2006, Drake released his first mix tape, made available via his website and official MySpace page. The mix tape was so successful, soon after, he signed with Lil Wayne and became only the second artist to have two top ten hits in the same week (”Best I Ever Had” and “Every Girl”).
